Evaluation of Thermal Performance of Polyimidebased PCB IN Geothermal Drilling Tools

Presented: GeoTherm Offenburg, 2025  – Shraddha Singh, Hephae Energy Technology.

Open Poster.

One of the biggest challenges of Deep geothermal drilling is the high temperature that exceeds the tolerance of the electronic devices in the Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools. To be able to drill deeper and hotter, an efficient removal of heat from the electronic components is crucial to avoid overheating.

The electronic components generating heat are mounted on Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) made of thin layers of different materials stacked one on top of the other. We aim to study this and design for better heat management.
